Leftover, the fourth four-track single by La Porta Nuova, follows Elisa (2022), Glorious Day (2023) and Road To Gold (2024). The first two singles also formed the compilation vinyl double album Torino (2024).
The title track is an elegy to an old-style hippie revolutionary and to the disappointment of seeing dreams go unfulfilled. Full of violent imagery and references to 1970s/1980s slogans and events, it’s a manifesto of failed aspiration, the protagonist a modern-day remnant from a bygone era.
Secrets is a half-serious warning of the dangers of telling anyone anything in confidence, given that they’ll always tell one other person. Drifting is a dreamy reflection on a decision not to keep in touch with someone close. Shoreline is the story of a parting told successively from the perspectives of the two people saying goodbye. For one it’s forever, for the other it’s just until they meet again.
