Elisa
Elisa, will you tell me all the secrets in your life?
Elisa, will you show me all the feelings that you hide
Behind that smile?
Elisa, do you ever think you’ll spend your time with me?
Elisa, is there anywhere you’d really like to see
Or want to be
That you imagine in your dreams?
Elisa, quando vuoi
Elisa, quando puoi
Elisa, quando mi dirai ‘noi’?
Elisa, tell me when
You need me as a friend
And I’ll be there
Anywhere that you feel there’s
Anything I could do
Elisa, whatever matters to you
Elisa, quando vuoi
Elisa, quando puoi
Elisa, quando mi dirai ‘noi’?
Elisa, come stai?
Elisa, dove vai?
Elisa, cosa diventerai?
Elisa, se verrai
Elisa, mai dire mai
Elisa, quando deciderai?
Elisa, in my mind
Elisa, by my side
Elisa, look at me, fill my eyes

Come Back
I put the case inside the safe
Some dark and long forgotten place
I left the box up in the loft
And threw the key away
Beneath the floor, behind the door
The things I don’t need any more
A crazy adolescent phase
I’m reaching for you through the haze
The letters and the messages
A diary of those days
You see the opportunity
You make a move, you’re breaking free
Come back, come back
You know you will one day
Come back, come back
You’re throwing it all away
You’re still in my recurring dreams
A strange and so disturbing scene
The weirdest place I’ve ever been
And every night the same
I wrote the words I thought I’d heard
Although they sounded so absurd
Come back, come back
You know you will one day
Come back, come back
You’re throwing it all away
Never changing, never fading
The story stays the same
However long I’m still here waiting
Yesterday, today
Come back, come back, come back
You’re saved inside my memory
And can’t escape again
So many thousand images
Are backed up in my brain
Come back, come back, come back
Along the walls and down the hall
For my fading powers of recall
I’m followed by the face I framed so many times before
And all your friends will still pretend
It’s better for you in the end
Come back, come back
You know you will one day
Come back, come back
You’re throwing it all away
Never changing, never fading
The story stays the same
However long I’m still here waiting
Never went away

The Party’s Over
The party’s over now
It’s time to clear the mess away
I can’t remember how
Tomorrow turned into today
Empty bottles, scattered litter
Cigarette ends, broken mirrors
Did we have a good time anyway?
The party over-ran
I hope the neighbours didn’t mind
We’ll clean up while we can
I’m dreading what the kids will find
Already it’s the morning after
Time to face the whole disaster
Time to turn the lights out for a while
The party’s over, can’t you see it?
The mood has changed and I can feel it
Just look around and who’s still standing there?
The talk and laughter, tears and dancing
Such a good time while it lasted
But something bad is hanging in the air
I never saw the time
Just don’t remind me what I said
The music and too much wine
This rhythm’s pounding in my head
I’ll find a space amongst this bombsite
It’s four o’clock, I’ll sleep till daylight
Come and wake me when the smoke has cleared
The party’s over, can’t you see it?
The mood has changed and I can feel it
Just look around and who’s still standing there?
The talk and laughter, tears and dancing
Such a good time while it lasted
But something bad is hanging in the air
Close the windows, draw the curtains
Dim the lights, my head is hurting
The rubbish bags are overflowing
The plastic cups will all just blow away, blow away, blow away, blow away
The party faded out
There’s really nothing left to say
Alright, I know it’s late
We’ll talk about things anyway
On second thoughts let’s do it later
With coffee and the Sunday papers
Be civilised or at least just pretend
The party’s over, can’t you see it?
The mood has changed and I can feel it
Just look around and who’s still standing there?
The talk and laughter, tears and dancing
Such a good time while it lasted
But something bad is hanging in the air
The party’s over now
It’s time to clear the mess away
I can’t imagine how
Tomorrow just became today

Going Under
I had a living working for my family
You know that wooden house up on the hill
One day the storm came down and blew our shack away
Tore everything apart that we had built
This young man thought he had the gift of second sight
But couldn’t see what’s coming down the road
He just believed the world was wrong and he was right
But if you asked him why he didn’t know
He’d only tell you well, I told you so
Look at all the seaweed and the driftwood
Getting washed up on the shore
And every day it’s swept away again
Tomorrow there’ll be more
It’s what the tide comes for
The sea looks so inviting from the promenade
I’ll dive from here one night and slip away
I’ve often thought of swimming to America
Just disappear, tomorrow start again
And leave the things behind I couldn’t change
And send a postcard, nothing much to say
Look at all the seaweed and the driftwood
Getting washed up on the store
And every day it’s swept away again
Tomorrow there’ll be more
It’s what the tide comes for
So many strangers in the neighbourhood
Been how many times around the block?
Too many traders in the marketplace
Let it stop, just make it stop
I want to let you know that I’ll be back one day
Even if it’s with another name
Whatever happens to me I can promise you
The music and the words will be the same
And when I’m home I’ll know I’m glad I came
We’ll maybe see that summertime again
Look at all the seaweed and the driftwood
Getting washed up on the shore
And every day it’s swept away again
And dragged aside
Tomorrow there’ll be more
It’s what the tide comes for

Glorious Day
Come on now
It feels like time to get together
Just stay inside and watch the snow
It’s frozen hard
But it won’t be cold forever
Just till the green begins to show
Stay around
Just keeping close where we feel warmer
When there is nowhere else to go
Deep in the ground
The trees it seems are dead since autumn
We know they’re only sleeping
So let’s stay in bed
Drinking wine and making love instead
The haze can stay
And it will still be a glorious day
Or fade away
And it will still be a glorious day
The riverbank
Is strong enough to build a bridge on
To take us to the other side
The golden fields I see
Are rich enough to give a harvest
That’s going to feed us all our lives
We’ll make a home
Over there, share all that we have grown
The haze can stay, and it will still be a glorious day
Or fade away, and it will still be a glorious day
The rain is falling, but it will still be a glorious day
The wind is calling, but it will still be a glorious day
It’s clouding over, but it will still be a glorious day
It’s feeling colder, but it will still be a glorious day
Far from here there is a place
The wanderers found beyond the sea
Long ago create a space
Which every child and man and woman dreams
The haze can stay, and it will still be a glorious day
Or fade away, and it will still be a glorious day
The rain is falling, but it will still be a glorious day
The wind is calling, but it will still be a glorious day
It’s clouding over, but it will still be a glorious day
It’s feeling colder, but it will still be a glorious day
The weather’s changing, but it will still be a glorious day
The sun is fading, but it will still be a glorious day
The shadow’s growing, but it will still be a glorious day
The storm is blowing, but it will still be a glorious day
And every morning, well it will still be a glorious day
In spring and autumn, yes it will still be a glorious day
And every season, yes they will still all be glorious days
Summer and winter, yes it will still be a glorious day
The sun is setting, but it has still been a glorious day
The ice has melted, and it will still be a glorious day
The moon is rising, and it has still been a glorious day
The stars are shining, and it has still been a glorious day
The rain is falling, but it will still be a glorious day
The wind is calling, but it will still be a glorious day
It’s clouding over, but it will still be a glorious day
It’s feeling colder, but it will still be a glorious day
The weather’s changing, but it will still be a glorious day
The sun is fading, but it will still be a glorious day
The shadow’s growing, but it will still be a glorious day
The storm is blowing, but it will still be a glorious day

Where Did It Go?
I never ever thought
That the things I’d bought
Would get so out of date
I couldn’t ever see
That they’d need to be
Repaired or just replaced
I just assumed
They’d fill my room
And not get thrown away
You never really know
Where your old friends go
Their numbers all have changed
Whatever happened to
All the streets you knew
Did nothing stay the same?
You wander round
That dear old town
But got lost on the way
Where did it go?
I don’t know, I don’t know
Where did it go?
I don’t know, I don’t know
I didn’t see the time
Till the church clock chimed
And dragged me from my sleep
And nothing goes as fast
As the years that passed
So little left to keep
And now I’ve learned
As seasons turn
What matters most to me
Where did it go?
I don’t know, I don’t know
Where did it go?
I don’t know, I don’t know
You never really mind
What you’ve left behind
Well that’s what I once heard
I never had a plan
To be a tired old man
Just cursing at the world
And who do I see
Looking back at me
As I walk on down the road?
Where did it go?
I don’t know, I don’t know
Where did it go?
I don’t know, I don’t know
Where did it go?
I don’t know, I don’t know
Where did it go?
I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know

If I Ever Wake Again
This is what I dream
I get it every time I close my eyes
And it’s always been the same
I’ll tell you all I’ve seen
A field that’s flowing red with blood and rain
If I ever wake again
If I ever wake again
So why the hell I’m here
Lain on some godforsaken piece of earth
Do I know and do I care?
Way beyond my fear
Remember number, date and place of birth
Will I recognise my name
If I ever wake again?
If I ever wake again
From 1943, the years of barely sleeping
To the 1970s, it’s better I should never wake again
One more war to end all wars
Was what I thought I came here for
A final hit, one last attack
The boys are never coming back again
I’ll be home
When the river runs again
When the daylight comes again
When the fountains flow again
When the roses grow again
I’ll be home
When the gardens bloom again
When the birds fly home again
When the grass is tall again
When the blossom falls again
I’ll be home
When the rain is warm again
When we hear the storm again
When the trees are green again
When we feel the breeze again
Your mother told you son, I know that you’ll go far
But only meant the other side of town
Your buddies landed on the beach at Omaha
And they were cut down, each one
Now here, now gone
Green lawns, white headstones
In hippy sounds of ‘68
No heroes to commemorate
Ban the bomb and stop the war
It’s what the kids are marching for
Flower power and peace and love
It’s what the freaks are dreaming of today

What The Ending ?
What’s the ending?
Did he make it after all,
Get the girl, save the world?
He always promised that he’d
Call from his haven
To let us know that everything was fine
What’s the ending?
Did it work out like he planned
From the start? In our heart
We always knew he was the
Man of the moment
He’s surely going to
Go for gold again
We’ll meet in the next world
So let’s see can he hold the prize till then
What’s the ending?
I think I’ve seen this one before
What’s the ending?
I don’t remember this at all
What’s the ending?
You always think there’s too much talk
I have to say, it’s just the way
But will they we ever get to
Walk to the sunset
Hand in hand just like the day they met?
We’ll stay through the fadeout
And watch the credits roll right to the end
What’s the ending?
I think I’ve seen this one before
What’s the ending?
I don’t remember this at all
What’s the ending?
I think I’ve seen his one before
What’s the ending?
I don’t remember this at all
What’s the ending?
Can they see it’s just a game?
What’s the ending?
Will they ever meet again?
What’s the ending?
Can we freeze the final frame
Just for a while, hold that smile?
Then you can hit the start again
And like De Niro, your special superhero, feel the pain
Was it all just a flashback
And a final act where everything’s explained?
What’s the ending?
I think I’ve seen this one before
What’s the ending?
I don’t remember this at all
What’s the ending? What’s the ending? What’s the ending?
I don’t remember this at all
