Road To Gold is the third single by La Porta Nuova, following on from Elisa (2022), Glorious Day (2023) and the compilation vinyl double album Torino (2024). In 1852 William Jones, an Anglesey farmer, sailed from Liverpool to Australia in search of gold. Nearly three years later he returned with enough gold to buy his own farm, having survived the perilous three-month journeys both ways. The song is an exuberant celebration of discovering precious metal, with a sequence of instrumental solos and a driving groove throughout.
Tell Tell Tell describes the frustrations of trying to communicate with someone who prefers silence. Bad Place is a sombre portrayal of breakdown and consequent disappearance until the storm blows over. Red Turns Blue is a restrained and intimate dialogue against the exquisite background of Paolo Gambino’s piano playing. A song about a missing person – or missing a person?
