4,000,000 Telephones come from Lincoln, UK, and formed in late 1984. An anarchic avant-garde/funk six-piece with multiple vocalists, they released an album on their own Bunker label in November 1985 and toured Germany in August 1986 before signing to Summerhouse in October 1986. The debut album and the single French Girls capture the band’s characteristic hard-edged funk and angst-laden subject matter before the original line-up split up in 1987. Only singer/keyboard player Richard remained in the second incarnation which recorded The Most Careful and Save You. An amazing live act with a powerful recorded sound, 4,000,000 Telephones’ first album was released again by Summerhouse on CD in November 2006, and the band reformed to play a launch gig for the album in Lincoln 21 years after it was recorded.
